Internships

An internship is a great way to gain hands-on experience in the field of rehabilitation. In return for your time and efforts, accommodations are often provided. The following WRNBC member facilities have internship programs:
Critter Care - Langley

Island Wildlife Natural Care Centre - Salt Spring Island
Mountainaire Avian Rescue Society - Courtenay

Progressive Animal Welfare Society - Lynnwood WA

Wildlife Rescue Association - Burnaby

Northern Lights Wildlife Society- Smithers

A number of other internship programs can be located throughout North America on the IWRC Jobline and NWRA Career listings.

Volunteering

Most WRNBC facilities rely on the help of volunteers to maintain their animal care and education programs. Volunteers play an important role in a facility and can serve to feed and treat animals, clean and build cages, rescue and transport animals, maintain facilities, give educational talks, and help fundraise. Find a rehabilitation facility to volunteer for in your area!

Training Opportunities

The International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council offers basic and advanced skills courses throughout the US and sometimes in Canada. Check out upcoming training courses. In the future, IWRC will offer on-line courses for upgrading skills. The National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association also offers a series of hands-on labs and workshops at annual symposiums.

Animal care training can be obtained through the University College of the Cariboo Animal Health Technology Program. Finally, a variety of biological sciences applicable to wildlife rehabilitation are also offered by BC's colleges and universities, including vertebrate zoology, animal behaviour and physiology, ecology, conservation and cell biology, immunology, microbiology, and biochemistry.
